Morning and bedtime routines for children
School bags, shoes, pyjamas: some days seem to need endless reminders. A routine makes the steps visible. The aim is to choose a few actions your child can understand and carry out, with your help whenever needed.
A sample morning routine
- Get dressed in the clothes you prepared together.
- Have breakfast.
- Brush teeth with suitable help.
- Check the school bag and get shoes ready.
Adapt this example to your family; it is not a compulsory checklist. Start with one or two easily forgotten steps rather than a packed schedule.
Plan the evening routine together
You might choose three actions: put books back in their basket, prepare tomorrow's things and get ready for bed. Put the steps in the order they actually happen. A paper list works too: the tool should make life easier, not add another obligation.
Which chore chart should you choose?
A paper chart is always on display. A children's chore app brings tasks, progress and rewards together. The best choice depends on the device you have and what your family will actually use.
Set up this routine in ELIKHO
A parent creates recurring tasks. The child ticks them off in their space; rewards remain pending until parental approval. In the evening, you can review what has been done together. Parents can have their own tasks too: everyone contributes at home.
ELIKHO Discovery lets you start with five active tasks per member. Challenges and avatars can support the routine without adding more and more tasks.
What if a step is difficult?
Try making it more specific: ‘put the blocks in the box’ is clearer than ‘tidy everything’. If it keeps causing difficulty, review the step with your child. Our guide to tidying and everyday requests offers an example.
